First Fridays- February 5th

It’s not a surprise that Los Angeles holds some of the best nightlife around here, although one thing that I love the most are the First Fridays. During the first Friday of every month the Los Angeles Natural History Museum opens its doors until 10 p.m. with performances in the halls lasting into the late night. They have live music, exciting scientific discussion, and custom curatorial tours.

What’s better then to gain some knowledge and experience some good music?

There have been performances by Atlas Sound, Tune Yards, The Bird and The Bee, Fool’s Gold, Busdriver and Wolfmother. Tonight’s “lineup” is just as up to parr, there will be performances by Yeasayer, Warpaint, Them Jeans, and Ana Calderon with a discussion titled “Where in the World Will Our Energy Come From?” with Dr. Nathan S. Lewis.

Hurry up and head on over down to LA, tickets are sold at the door, but theres only a limited amount.

Lucky for you guys who are stuck at home though (or live too far to make it) Yeasayer’s performance will be streamed live at 9:30 p.m. Pacific Time, USA here. You can click the link now and watch a clip of Bradford Cox, from Deerhunter & Atlas Sound, performing at January’s First Friday.

….speaking of Yeasayer, you can start pre-ordering their upcoming album on their site now.

Flying Lotus to release Cosmogramma on May 4….Thom Yorke?

With a projected date to release the the album on Warp Records on 4/20 (funny coincidence?), it seems like they have moved it to date. The new planned date is May 4th in the US and a day earlier in the UK. However one good thing, Thom Yorke guests on the album! This definitely just made the wait harder then it already was.

For those of you that haven’t experienced the sublimeness of Flying Lotus, here is a video to the song “Massage Situation.”

Noise Pop 2010

Don’t get turned off by this festival name just because of it’s poorly chosen title; this year’s festival includes Plastic Ono Band, Four Tet, Zee Avi, and many others in this Bay area festival. For one week starting February 23rd, you can go to the various clubs hosting shows ranging from bands around the world. And if you get tired, you can always relax in the theaters where the film festival will be featuring pictures of Woodstock and Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips. But the biggest news of the weekend is probably Yoko Ono’s first appearance in the Bay area for the first time in 14 years, who will be on stage with Cornelius and Cibo Matto’s Sean Lennon and Yuka Honda. Openers for the show include Deerhunter.
